Jack Graham Motorcycles
began trading in 1929. My father, John Charles Graham was the owner, he
was 22 years old.
He managed to trade through the depression years by selling second hand
motorcycles, cars and bicycles. He carried his own finance. From the
early 1930s he managed to obtain agencies to sell new motorcycles. He
also serviced cars for some of the local trade people.
Prior to WWII he obtained a job as a mechanic with the Government Garage
servicing police and government vehicles. This was a protected industry
from war service. He managed to keep the workshop running at Wickham
Street at the same time.
At the end of WWII he left the Government Garage and ran the Wickham
Street workshop full time. He then was an agent for all British
motorcycles. In 1948 a shop was rented in Gardners Road, Mascot, as
a showroom for our new motorcycles. My mother, Rosaline Graham ran this
shop. They had this shop until 1952. Around this time my mother started
Mascot District Motorcycles Club.
In 1954, I began my apprenticeship with my father. By 1958 we were
selling Japanese motorcycles. In 1971 my father died and I continued
running the business. Japanese motorcycles were sold until 1976. We sold
Ducatti motorcycles from 1973 until 1978. By this time my mother was
working with me. New motorcycles were sold until 1980, i.e BMW, Moto
Morcini and Gilera. Since then we have sold vintage and classic
motorcycles.
